The Real Alternative to College and University

Trade School (or Vocational School as it is also known) offers a very real alternative to the traditional college or university style education. Trade schools teach the skills needed for a particular trade, and lots of different courses are available at the growing number of trade schools across America.

Realistically speaking, not everybody is academically minded and equipped to get the most out of college or university . . . some students simply don’t want to continue their education in this way . . . and Trade School offers a very viable alternative. After graduation from a Trade School the student will be well equipped to enter the job market immediately with his or her newfound skills and qualifications . . . learning actual trades.

What Sorts of Courses Do Trade Schools Offer

Trade Schools offer a very wide range of courses, mostly “hands-on” but also, for any trades which don’t require any practical experience there are online trade school courses available. The types of courses on offer at Trade Schools include stuff like:

  • Cookery and Hospitality Courses
  • Electrical or Plumbing Courses
  • Automotive Repair Courses
  • Medical Technician Training Courses
  • Beauty and Skin Care Type Courses

Trade Schools offer a different type of environment to many colleges and universities . . . an environment which their students find more supportive to their long term future and goals. To walk straight out of Trade School with the necessary skills to walk into the career of your choice (and pay packet to match) is a very appealing prospect for many students.

Trade Schools Offer a Second Chance

Trade Schools aren’t just a great solution for students who want to work directly towards their chosen career, but also offer very real benefits to mature students as a way of retraining for a new direction.  Many of today’s trade schools receive government assistance and can offer grants, childcare and even housing to disadvantaged students. These trade schools typically run job placement schemes, greatly increasing the chances of their graduates to move straight into paid employment, a winning situation for both students and employers.

Anybody who thinks that trade schools offer an easy option, however, are setting themselves up to be extremely disappointed. Trade schools these days are accredited and regularly reviewed ensuring that they have a very strong curricula. If you are lucky enough to secure a place in trade school it means the start of a very strenuous training course – some are 2 years, some are longer . . . and while trade school education might not have the same prestige as many universities and colleges the students still receive technical training along with a grounded education . . . it certainly ain’t no easy ride!

You can check with the US government if you are planning to go to a trade school. Also there are many online resources to learn more about trade schools.

Trade Schools typically offer great support and “after sales service” to their students. Because many students from trade schools are lucky enough to secure work placements it means that the staff of the trade school are in a great position to keep in touch with their students and follow their progress after graduation in the working world.

As I said at the top of the page . . . trade schools offer a very real alternative to college and university!
